Central China - The New Frontier

Challenges or Opportunities: Which will you find?

With rising costs and intense competition in top tier cities along the eastern and southern seaboard, many companies are looking to central and western China as the new frontier and growth opportunity in this market. Central cities provide multiple opportunities, but with a variety of obstacles and barriers, present a variety of questions:

  • Is the risk too great for the rewards offered?
  • Is there low hanging fruit in other places?
  • Are these markets ready to accommodate western business practices and all that goes with it?

This presentation will explore some of the challenges and mindsets of the business environment in central China and is based on Henan province. The location provides a great geographic, economic, and sociological contrast to the top tier cities as provincial demographics demonstrate.

As a result, the presentation will:

  • Provide a current impression of central and western Chinese market
  • Identify some risks and challenges in these markets
  • Present prominent industries for opportunities Minnesota companies should consider
